Your Questions, Answered

At Stacks & Shelves, recommendations start with listening.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all reading, bestseller lists, or pushing what’s popular. Instead, we pay attention—to what you’re drawn to, what you’ve loved before, and what kind of experience you’re hoping for right now.
You might hear us ask questions like:
What are you in the mood for—quiet or intense?
Do you want something comforting, or something that might unsettle you a little?
Are you reading for escape, reflection, or connection?
Sometimes we’ll recommend a book quickly. Other times we’ll sit with the question for a moment. And occasionally, we’ll tell you honestly that a book might not be for you—because trust matters more than selling a copy.
Our shelves are small on purpose. Every book here has earned its place, and every recommendation is offered with care.
You’re always welcome to browse quietly. And if you want guidance, we’re here for that too.

You can find us all throughout the DFW area (including Arlington, Plano, Irving, Denton, and Grapevine).
We post our planned postings on the website and it is updated regularly.
We are usually stationed in one location from Saturday-Sunday. Occasionally, we will have a Friday posting in the Fort Worth area.
We also pop-up at festivals and fairs. Any literary event in the DFW can expect our van!
If there is a locale you’d like us to pop-up, send us a note and we can work with you to coordinate.

We sure do!
If you order a title from us, online or in the store, we can have it shipped right to your door.

We’re not a trend-driven shop, and we don’t stock books simply because they’re popular. If a widely talked-about title shows up on our shelves, it’s because it offers depth, care, and staying power—not because it’s everywhere else.
-
We prioritize recommending books we can speak about sincerely.
Many of the titles on our shelves are books we’ve read and loved. Others are chosen because they deeply align with our taste and values, even if they’re still on our reading list. We’ll always be transparent about our relationship to a book when making a recommendation.

Being here already matters.
If you don’t buy a book from us, the single best thing you can do is use your local public library.
Libraries are one of the most important—and most underutilized—resources in a community. When libraries aren’t used, they’re underfunded, and that loss ripples outward. Checking out books, placing holds, and simply being a library patron helps keep these spaces alive and accessible for everyone.
Stacks & Shelves is a passion project, not a high-pressure retail venture. We’re here on weekends because we love books and book conversations—not because every visit needs to end in a purchase. If you’re deciding between buying a book or borrowing it, especially for contemporary or genre titles, please choose the library.
You can also support us by spreading the word, showing up when we’re in your neighborhood, following along, or just talking books with us. This shop is built on relationship, curiosity, and shared love of reading—not transactions.
